Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine focused on the restoration of function of your musculoskeletal system. This system is comprised of your bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons and connective tissues. Together, they support your body's weight, maintain your posture and help you move. They also provide a protective framework for your nervous system. Dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system can therefore cause disruption to the nervous system. When this happens, the brain is now longer able to communicate effectively with the rest of the body and consequently, the body cannot function optimally. Chiropractors use a combination of methods to diagnose and correct the dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system to restore communication and in turn, optimize health. Chiropractic care can be used to relieve acute pain, help with chronic conditions and/or maintain good health. At Pickering Chiropractic Health Centre, we have multiple chiropractors that can help you get back to enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment involving the insertion of very thin needles to stimulate the nervous system or increase blood flow to a certain area. This helps the body to become less sensitive to pain and encourages the natural healing process. The result of stimulating these points can include reduced pain and inflammation, and improved function in the treated area.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a hands-on treatment of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons & ligaments. Massage therapy directly affects the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems with the aim of relieving physical pain, rehabilitating and maintaining physical function, and enhancing the overall wellbeing of the patient.
At our Centre, we have several massage therapists who provide a wide range of techniques such as Swedish massage, pregnancy massage, reflexology, craniosacral therapy and cupping.

Craniosacral

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and optimizing your health and immunity.

Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is an alternative therapy based on the principle that all the systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands, and ears. Stimulation of the many nerve endings on all these surfaces, helps to open up the natural pathways your body uses to nourish and heal itself. Tender or ‘gritty’ points, indicate congestion in the corresponding area of the body.  During a reflexology treatment, a state of deep relaxation is created in the body which interrupts the pattern of stress and brings balance to the body and its systems where there is imbalance.

Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique with the purpose of balancing your chakras (energy centres). Chakra imbalance can manifest as various physical, mental and emotional ailments. During a session, our reiki practitioner will be working with the Universal Life force energy to remove any stagnant energy and improve the flow and balance of energy to facilitate the body’s natural healing abilities.

Cupping

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a suction is created on the skin, by a therapist, with the application of special cups. The suction increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed, which can improve overall blood flow, promote cell repair, and relieve muscle tension. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. At Pickering Chiropractic Health Centre, cupping is performed in conjunction with either chiropractic or massage therapy.

Chiropody

Chiropody

Chiropody is the assessment and management of foot disorders and diseases. Chiropodists are foot specialists that treat a wide range of foot issues, to reduce pain and improve mobility. Some of these issues include, but are not limited to, neuropathy, calluses, corns, nail trauma, wounds/ulcers, plantar fasciitis, fungus, warts, infections, bunions, heel spurs, ingrown nails, diabetic foot care, geriatric foot care, rheumatoid foot care, nail & soft tissue surgeries, and orthotics.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascial Stretch Therapy is a table-based myofascial release and assisted stretching therapy that focuses on releasing muscle tension and joint stiffness throughout the interwoven connective tissue called fascia (“fa-sh-ah”). This gentle, soft tissue treatment incorporates deep assisted stretching and direct thumb and elbow pressure to areas of tension and joint restriction. What differs this approach to traditional static stretching is the incorporation of passive motion and long leaver traction; targeting the deep joint capsule and its supportive connective tissues; fascia, tendons and ligaments. Techniques are performed over the clothing, and its recommend patients wear non-restrictive clothing such as sweats or exercise attire, to allow them to move with minimal resistance.
